Developer Hiring Costs and Engagement Models Explained
Rates are only part of the cost. A clear look at what drives developer pricing and how to compare options fairly.

Rates are a starting point
A published rate tells you where pricing begins, not what the full engagement costs. To compare options properly, look at the factors that change the rate and the costs that sit around it.
What changes the rate
Several factors commonly affect developer pricing:
- Experience level: junior, mid-level, senior and specialist profiles are priced differently.
- Technology: niche or high-demand stacks often cost more.
- Specialist requirements: architecture, AI/ML or cloud expertise typically sits in a higher tier.
- Availability: urgent starts or specific working-hour overlap can affect pricing.
- Duration: longer engagements may be structured differently from short ones.
- Contract terms: billing frequency and commitments influence the final figure.
Engagement models and how they are priced
Hourly engagements are priced per hour worked. Monthly dedicated engagements are priced per month for an agreed schedule. Part-time engagements depend on weekly hours and skills. Fixed-term contracts depend on duration, capacity and expertise. Dedicated teams are quoted on team size, roles, experience and duration.
Costs around the rate
When comparing with in-house hiring, remember the costs that a rate may or may not include: recruitment time, onboarding effort, equipment, software licences, cloud infrastructure and management time. Ask any partner to state clearly what is included and what is not.
Our indicative starting rates
For planning, our indicative hourly rates start from $12 for junior, $20 for mid-level and $30 for senior developers, with specialist engineers priced on request. Monthly dedicated rates start from $1,500, $2,500, $3,800 and $4,500 respectively. These are indicative and final pricing is confirmed after reviewing your requirements; taxes and any minimum commitments are disclosed before agreement.
Comparing fairly
Compare like with like: the same experience level, the same hours, and the same inclusions. A lower rate with unclear terms can cost more than a slightly higher rate with transparent ones.
